Feature: Katy Lu

Since the weekends usually consist of me trying really hard to not wear anything other than leggings and t-shirts, I thought that I would feature one of my sisters. This is Katy Lu. She's 23 and the 3rd oldest. (there are 6 girls) If there was a sisters that is most like me if would be Katy. She can quote the entire Grinch movie (in the Grinch voice) and works at a Cupcake Boutique as the main baker and manager.

Where is your favorite place to shop for clothes?
Lotus (a local boutique) and that is where her dress is from.
What is your favorite item of clothing/shoes?
My camel knee high boots from Target I wear them with everything and they are my boyfriend’s favorite. :)
What is one thing that is trendy right now that you can't stand?
Combat boots. I hate them.
How would you describe your style?
(at this point Katy started singing this) "Fresh and clean when I step out on the scene.” (Yea I have no idea how that describes her style but I guess that's just Katy)
If you were every stranded on an island what is one beauty item that you would take with you? Straightener! I can’t stand frizzy hair!
What are you looking forward to wearing most in the spring?
Springy dresses and sandals.

Happy end of the weekend everyone!

Organize

We live in a home with extremely tiny closets. In fact our bedroom does not even have a closet. So since we don’t have children I turned one of our rooms into a closet! I have no idea how I convinced my husband to give me an entire room for my clothes and shoes but it happen and I’m not complaining.

I’m using Kendi’s Working Closet Series and Ruche’s One Week to a New Closet to get inspiration for my closet and how to make it more organized and work better for me. One thing that I do different from the beginning is get organize. I feel like if I am organized I can then see better what I want to change, sell, swap, well you get the point. When I was growing up and I would have to clean my room my Mom made us move everything to the middle of the room and then put things where they need to go. It made everything else clean and organized so it was easier to put things away where they go. I still do the same thing today (thanks Mom). So my first step is to get organized. I first hung up all my clothes. If they could fit on hanger I hung them up. Then I color coded everything, separated my pants, skirts, and dressed away from my shirts. I also bought a rack just for work clothes. I found this makes things so much easier when I’m getting dressed in the morning.  The armoire was given to us and it first I had no idea what to do with it. I didn’t really like the idea of using it as a clothes rack and now I love it with my shoes on it and then perfect to hang extra hangers at the top.
Now that this is done I am going to go back through this week and purge! Then I’m getting together with a couple friends for a swap party. I love this idea and I can’t wait to have my first swap.

OK so I was brave enough to post pictures of my closet so let’s see yours! What have you done in the past when organizing your closet? What works for you?

Ombre

I don't know why but I can not get enough of the color Blue lately. A majority of the dresses or shirts that I have purchased over the last couple of months have been blue. I also love ombre. Hopefully I will be dying my hair this shortly.... Ombre not blue.

Diet Coke

Is it possible to have writers block this early?! I blame it on the lack of Diet Coke I have consumed today. That would be zero. This is huge for me. I think the answer to everything is Diet Coke. But one of my new years resolutions was to drink more water and less caffeine. Its hard. I'm slightly addicted to caffeine. I love Red Bull too but that's a different story.

This top and skirt are both thrifted! I am so proud of these two buys. They were both less than $3 a piece. Can you tell how proud I am. My husband was even more excited.
I think I'll go get a Diet Coke and watch Bones. I'm also addicted to anything Emily or Zooey Deschanel.

Weekend Update

My husband and I along with my sister and her boyfriend decided to run a half marathon coming up in March. When we signed up it was before Thanksgiving and plenty of time to train. Yea well the holidays got in the way of any training and my poor 3 miles that I can run is just not going to cut it when going up against 13.1. I physically hurt when I look at think about running that many miles.  So a few weeks back I searched the races in our area and decided we should at least run a 5k then a 10k before the half marathon.  The 5k was supposed to be this weekend. So Friday night I look up the race course and it was not a 5k but a 10k. We decided to go ahead and run. I will spare you the details but we did finish. I was very proud of us both. Although it was not pretty I am glad that we went through with it. My body is still aching.
The most important thing is I have a t-shirt to prove it.
After the race and a long shower we had a Mardi Gras ball. For those of you not familiar with Mardi Gras you will be hearing more on the topic later. If you want me to send you a King Cake, Moonpie’s and beads just let me know!

Networking

One major part of my job description is networking. Last night a friend and I went to an event for our area chamber to network. It’s kind of intimidating. Walking around trying to make awkward eye contact with someone before introducing yourself and trying to explain what company you are with. Last nights event was even worse because the space where it was being held was so small and there were so many people. So add having to speak yell at the person you are talking, it takes work people! I try my best to stand out at these events so that I have a better chance of being remembered. “Oh yea that was the lady in the hot pink dress” See how that works. This belt I borrowed from my sister who I got slumber party with last night. That is her and her husband’s dog Major, he likes to sit in your lap like he’s a Yorkie, and he loves pulling me down the street whenever I try to walk him… or him walk me. Good times.

Shoes

I bought these shoes from Target around Thanksgiving. I convinced myself that I was going to wear them all the time and they were the best thing ever. That is usually all it takes to convince me to buy a pair of shoes that and they’re on sale. These were $5 off so really how could I resist!? My husband likes to think that it should take more than that, but what does he know he’s just a stinky boy. I tend to act like a 5 year old whenever someone threatens my shoes collection. Well it turns out that these are not my favorite pair of shoes and this outfit is just the 3rd one I have worn them with. Maybe I should think harder before I buy shoes? I’ll let you know how that goes.
And yes this is my favorite necklace. I’m a bit obsessed with mustaches.

Springy

This outfit may be a little slightly on the spring/summer side of things since it is still January. However, today it was 72 degrees and I had the air conditioner on in my car! It’s so hard to stay in the winter style spirit when its 70 degrees out. I can't complain though, because I would much rather have this weather than snowing.

In other news I went to the gym tonight. (Yay me!) While almost passing out on the treadmill I managed to see several cut off t-shirts, one man in plaid board shorts, one man in cargo khakis with a chew in his mouth, and a 75 year old man running faster than me.

That's our cat Tux. He's an outside cat as of a couple months ago. He likes to yell at us through our back door and remind us how rude we were for putting him outside.
